Save the globes

The University of Padua will soon open the first Italian University Museum of Geography. The University plans to restore a celestial globe from 1630, the work of Willem Blaeu, one of the most renowned globe builders of the seventeenth century. Globes have always been used as instruments for study and instruction.

The University intends on creating a second globe for educational purposes using two fragments from a terrestrial globe crafted some time around 1645. Our goal is to share the work with audiences of all ages for the purpose of enrichment, instruction, and to inspire through its beauty for generations to come. Celestial globes are visual models with extraordinary intricacies, representing constellations holding audiences of all ages with captive fascination.

The cost to restore the celestial globe is 5500 euros and the cost of creating the educational terrestrial globe is 6500 euros
